Joining a property or property disputes team as a trainee or junior lawyer can be a daunting experience, especially as home-working often makes it more difficult to ‘learn by osmosis’ or ask questions of colleagues.

Recognising this, we have recently published two new starter guides: one for non-contentious property lawyers, and one for property disputes lawyers. The guides demystify common tasks given to junior fee-earners and provide guidance on how to avoid potentially serious mistakes. More experienced lawyers may also find this content useful, as they can direct trainees to it and therefore save time explaining the basics.

Among other things, the guides:

explain the role of a property or property disputes lawyer

focus on the key issues that arise in property transactions (eg land ownership, registration, conveyancing and mortgages) or property disputes (eg disrepair, termination and insolvency)

link out to other useful sources and materials, including property disputes “quick guides”

provide tips on how to make the most of the Lexis®PSL product

See: Property—new starter guide and Property Disputes—new starter guide.
